We have been involved with the authorised service providers initiative since North Power’s 1997 inception. We stay active and up to date with this by training and maintaining a team of employees who are regularly tested and always able to correctly work on the Essential Energy's Network. When the updates to this initiative were completed at the close of 2017, our team was granted authorisation for contestable metering, followed by AGL, Origin Energy and others.
At Rob Ward Electrical Services we like to lead the pack when it comes to accepting changes and improving our services so we can give our clients the best possible service. Since that 1997 inception we have maintained good status as a Level 2 ASP. Since then, we have installed overhead and underground services, along with completing the installation of required metering across both residential and commercial premises throughout the Northern Rivers, including, Ballina, Byron Bay, Lismore, Tweed Heads and Yamba.
What does it mean to be an accredited provider of contestable services in Australia? Any entity undertaking the work of a new or expanded connection into the electrical network is required to be accredited. The level 2 accreditation is what’s needed for construction of service lines between the system of distribution and the connection point used to install and energise metering. It’s difficult to earn this accreditation because eligibility requires the entity to maintain relevant qualifications and specific insurances to perform these duties. They must also show a demonstrated capability for the completion of this type of work, along with access to the appropriate equipment needed to safely perform these services. Past experience is required and the accreditation must be renewed every three years so our clients are promised up to date and safe service completion using the right equipment.
- Level 2A disconnect and reconnect
- 2B work on underground conductors
- 2C work on overhead conductors
- 2D installing metering for meter types 5 to 6
A big portion of our business comes from requests for safe and efficient disconnection or reconnection to allow other trades people to stick to the close approach regulations. This also enables us to provide fast, reliable services to all areas of the Far North Coast.
It’s our responsibility to keep up with ever-evolving regulations, in order to do so we stay in constant communication with the appropriate authorities. For all your new connection or renovation needs, we are here to guide you through the process, making it the least complex and safest that it can be.
The key thing to note is that Level 1 and Level 2 ASPs are both qualified electricians, they just specify in different fields. The main differences include the type of electrical systems they can operate on and where they can work.
A Level 2 electrician is qualified to carry out installations, repairs and maintenance on service lines that run between a property and the electrical supply network, like overhead cables. A Level 1 electrician, on the other hand, generally deals with circuitry, faulty wiring problems and switches but can perform underground and overhead construction work to distribute the electrical network close to the roadway.
We don't recommend that you attempt to fix an electrical problem or disconnect the electrical services between your property and service line by yourself, no matter how simple it may seem. Electricity is dangerous, and there could be serious consequences if you do a job wrong. Furthermore, aside from physical harm, if an electrical repair is carried out incorrectly, it could result in a lot of damage being done to your home and the system you are trying to fix.
What's more, you're likely going to end up paying out more than you would have if you'd hired an electrician in the first place. For these reasons, it's better to hire a licensed electrician to deal with any issues safely.
There are a few electrical tasks that only a level 2 electrician is licensed to carry out, including:
